Contra facts for kids
Contra (also called Probotector in Europe) is an exciting 1987 arcade shooting video game. In this game, players work to stop a powerful group called Red Falcon from taking over our planet.
How to Play Contra
In Contra, you get to choose between two heroes: Bill or Lance. Each hero has a special rifle that can shoot unlimited bullets. The goal is to survive and defeat enemies. However, if an enemy hits you even once, your character loses a life.
Game Stages and Lives
The game has ten different stages, or levels. To move forward in each stage, you must shoot and destroy special sensors. You start with three lives. If you lose all your lives, the game ends. In the original arcade version, players could sometimes continue playing a few times after losing all their lives.
Types of Stages
Contra features three main types of stages:
- Side-scroller: Most levels are side-scrolling stages. This means your character moves across the screen from one side to the other.
- 3-D: Some stages give you a feeling of depth, like you are moving into the screen.
- Boss: At the end of certain stages, you will face a very strong enemy, known as a boss, that you must defeat.
