Cooper, Ohio facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Cooper is a small place in Ohio, United States. It's called an "unincorporated community," which means it's a group of homes and buildings that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government. It's located in Seneca County.

Cooper's History

Cooper might be a small place, but it once had its own post office! This post office opened in 1899. For a few years, people in Cooper could send and receive their mail right there.

Why the Post Office Closed

The post office in Cooper didn't stay open for very long. It closed in 1903. This happened because of something new called Rural Free Delivery. Before this, people in the countryside had to go to a post office to get their mail. Rural Free Delivery meant that mail carriers would deliver mail directly to people's homes, even in rural areas. Because of this new service, small post offices like the one in Cooper were no longer needed, and many of them closed down.
