Copándaro is a special area in the Mexican state of Michoacán. It's called a municipality, which is like a local government area where people live and work together. The main town in this area is called Copándaro de Galeana.

This municipality covers about 173.52 square kilometers. That's a pretty good size! It's located in the central part of Michoacán. Copándaro shares its borders with other municipalities. To the north, you'll find Huandacareo and Cuitzeo. To the east and south, it borders Tarímbaro. And to the west, it's next to Chucándiro.

Back in 2005, about 8,131 people lived in Copándaro.

What does Copándaro mean?

The name Copándaro comes from the Purépecha language. The Purépecha people are an indigenous group from Michoacán, and their language is very old and important to the region's history. In their language, "Copándaro" means "place of the avocado". This tells us that avocados were likely an important part of the area a long time ago!
