How Cordele Started
Cordele was founded in 1897. This happened when a company called the New York and Texas Land Company sold land to people who wanted to settle there. The town was named after Cordele, Georgia. The first postmaster, Dr. Stapleton, came from Cordele, Georgia. He named the new town to remind him of his home.
When Cordele first started, it was a place where goods were shipped. It even had its own post office. At the very beginning, only eight people lived in the town.
Cordele's Population Changes
Over the years, the number of people living in Cordele has changed. In 1968, the town's population grew to 176 residents. However, by the year 2000, the population had become smaller, with only 51 people living there.
