Cornball Express at RCDB |
Cornball Express is an exciting wooden roller coaster located at Indiana Beach in Monticello, Indiana. It was built by a company called Custom Coasters International and first opened on May 18, 2001. This coaster quickly became a favorite among roller coaster fans! In fact, a website named ThemeParkCritic.com even called it the best wooden roller coaster in the world in 2002. Cornball Express was one of the last roller coasters designed by Custom Coasters International before they closed their business in 2002. It was their 48th coaster design.
One cool thing about Cornball Express is how it's built right into the park's other rides. It weaves through and uses parts of the Hoosier Hurricane's structure. It also glides over the Kiddieland section of the park. Sometimes, it even seems to 'duel' with the Rocky's Rapids Log Flume attraction. The ride also wraps around the park's Tig'rr Coaster.
The name Cornball Express was almost used for the Hoosier Hurricane coaster instead. But the park decided to use the name Hoosier Hurricane for that ride.
What is the Cornball Express Ride Like?
Your ride on the Cornball Express starts when you board the trains. These trains were designed by Philadelphia Toboggan Coasters. After you pull down the "buzz bar" restraint, the train slowly leaves the station. Then, it begins its climb up the 55-foot-tall (17 m) lift hill.
As soon as the train reaches the top of the chain lift hill, it gets ready for the first drop. This is a twisted drop that sends the train speeding down at 45 miles per hour! After this thrilling drop, the ride soars over the Hoosier Hurricane. It then goes into a turnaround before heading towards an airtime hill.
The ride then circles the Tig'rr Coaster's area. Here, you'll experience more airtime hills. After a third airtime hill that takes you over the lake, the fourth hill brings riders into the Hoosier Hurricane's structure. It even copies the "S-bend" turn of the Hurricane. The ride then soars over the Kiddieland section of the park. Next, it goes into a helix, which is a spiraling turn. After the helix, riders get two more bunny hills of airtime. Finally, the train turns into the brake run, bringing your exciting ride on the Cornball Express to an end.
