The community of Cornland has a brief but interesting history. A post office was opened there in 1880. This allowed people living in and around Cornland to send and receive mail. However, the post office did not stay open for very long. It closed down in 1899, after being in operation for about 19 years.

The name "Cornland" was chosen because of the area's farming. The original site of the community was surrounded by many large cornfields. It was a very fitting name for a place where corn was a major crop!
