Cory Bomberry (born August 9, 1976) is a former professional lacrosse player from the Iroquois nation. He played as an attacker for many years. Cory is known for his time with the Rochester Knighthawks and the Buffalo Bandits in the NLL.
Many people consider Cory Bomberry to be one of the most famous Iroquois lacrosse players. He played most of his NLL career in Rochester. However, he also had a great time playing for Buffalo. In 2006, he helped a teammate, John Tavares, tie a major NLL scoring record.
Cory Bomberry's NLL Career
Cory Bomberry was chosen by the Rochester Knighthawks in the first round of the 1997 draft. Before joining the NLL, he had already won the Mann Cup twice. He won these championships with the Six Nations Chiefs in 1995 and 1996.
He played for the Knighthawks from 1997 to 2003. During this time, he helped them win the 1997 championship. After leaving Rochester, he played one year for the Arizona Sting. Then, he spent three years with the Buffalo Bandits.
While with the Buffalo Bandits, Cory reached the NLL Championship game in 2008. This was his seventh time playing in the finals. In 2009, he returned to the Rochester Knighthawks. He played one more season before ending his career. During his 13 years as a pro, Cory was twice named the National Lacrosse League Native American MVP. This award was given by the Turtle Island News.
Playing for His Nation
Cory Bomberry also played for the Iroquois Nationals. He represented his nation in three major international events. These were the World Indoor Lacrosse Championships. He played in the tournaments held in 2003, 2007, and 2011. The Iroquois Nationals team earned silver medals in all three of these championships.
