Cory Buckner is an American architect known for her work in bringing old buildings back to life. This is called restoration architecture. She studied art at the Chouinard Art Institute and later earned a master's degree in architecture from the University of California, Los Angeles.
Cory Buckner is especially famous for her building design and restoration projects in Crestwood Hills, a neighborhood in Los Angeles.
Saving Historic Homes
Cory Buckner and her husband, Nick Roberts, bought a house in Crestwood Hills. They worked together to fix it up. After restoring their own home, they realized how special the other houses in the neighborhood were. They decided to lead a movement to protect these unique homes.
These houses were originally part of a special community called the Mutual Housing Association. This was a group where people worked together to build and live in homes. Many of these homes are examples of a style called Southern California Modernism. Today, 15 of the 30 remaining houses in Crestwood Hills are officially recognized as important historical buildings in Los Angeles.
Awards and Recognition
In 2002, Cory Buckner received the L.A. Preservation Award. This award recognized her amazing efforts to protect and restore the original homes in Crestwood Hills. Her work helped save important examples of modern architecture and made the neighborhood even stronger.
Los Angeles Magazine also named Cory Buckner as one of "6 Women who Changed The Face of L.A. Architecture." This shows how much her work has influenced the city's buildings and design. She also received an award from the Los Angeles Conservancy in 2002.
