How Cottageville Got Its Name

Cottageville got its name because of a special train line that used to run through the area. This was the Newark–Trenton Fast Line, a type of electric train called a trolley. There was a stop here where people could get off.

Summer Cottages and Trolleys

Many years ago, people would travel to this spot to build small "cottages" for summer vacations. These were like little holiday homes. The trolley stop made it easy for people to reach their summer getaways. This is how the area became known as Cottageville.

What Cottageville Is Like Today

Today, Cottageville is still a peaceful place. You can still see some of the older homes that were built a long time ago.

Nature and Modern Uses

The area also has lots of forest land, which is great for nature. There's even a summer camp nearby where kids can have fun. The old trolley line, which was once a busy path for trains, is now used by the PSE&G. They have large power lines, called transmission lines, that carry electricity across the land. There's also a PSE&G substation in the area, which helps manage the flow of electricity.
