Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Cottonwood Point is a small community located in Pemiscot County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. It's known as a census-designated place, which means it's a special kind of community that isn't a full city or town, but still has people living there. This community sits right on the western side of the mighty Mississippi River. If you look across the river to the southeast, you'll find Heloise, Tennessee, about one mile away.

A Look Back at Cottonwood Point

Cottonwood Point has a history that goes back many years. A post office was opened here in 1853, helping people send and receive mail. It stayed open for a long time, until 1912. The community got its name from the beautiful cottonwood trees that grew in a large group near where the town first started.

Today, Cottonwood Point is also home to the Historic Taylor Cemetery. In 2017, a special project called the Taylor Cemetery Restoration Project began. This project works to care for and restore the old cemetery, helping to preserve a piece of the community's past.
