County Hall's History

County Hall first opened its doors in 1783. Back then, it was used as a county court. A county court is a type of court where local legal cases are handled. This could include disagreements between people or smaller legal issues.

The courts stayed in this building for a very long time. However, in 1988, the legal proceedings moved to a new location on Much Park Street. After the courts left, the County Hall building was empty for some years.

Then, in 2000, the building was bought and given a new purpose. It was transformed into a place where people could gather for food and drinks. Even with the changes, some parts of the old courthouse were kept. For example, you can still see the judge's chair and the public gallery. These features remind everyone of the building's important past.
