A Church with a Long History
County Line Baptist Church started a long time ago, on May 2, 1835. It began in the home of William C. Morgan. He was an important person in the church's early days.
How the Church Got Its Land
William C. Morgan bought the land for the church from the Muscogee people, also known as the Creek Indians. He bought about two acres of land. Then, he gave this land to the church so they could build a proper place to meet.
The Church Building Today
The church building you see there now was built in 1890. That's over 130 years ago! What's really cool is that the building has been used continuously since it was built. It also looks almost exactly the same as it did when it was first finished.
Recognized as Important
This church is very special because of its history and how well it has been kept.
Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage
On January 14, 1980, County Line Baptist Church was added to the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage. This means the state of Alabama officially recognized it as an important historical place.
National Register of Historic Places
Later, on August 19, 1982, the church was also added to the National Register of Historic Places. This is a list of places across the whole United States that are important to history. Being on this list helps protect the church and its history for future generations.
