Dudleyville, also called Pittsborough, is a small community in Tallapoosa County, Alabama. It is an unincorporated community, which means it's not officially a city or town with its own local government.
Dudleyville was named after Peter Dudley. He set up the very first trading post there. A trading post was like a general store where people could buy and sell goods. The community became an official town on February 2, 1839. Dudleyville had its own post office from 1836 until 1907.
Major Lemuel Montgomery was an American soldier. He was the first soldier killed in the Battle of Horseshoe Bend. He was first buried in the Dudleyville cemetery. Later, his grave was moved to Horseshoe Bend National Military Park.
Abram Mordecai was a trader who lived in Dudleyville for some time. He was important because he installed the first cotton gin in Alabama. A cotton gin is a machine that quickly separates cotton fibers from their seeds. In 1847, a historian named Albert J. Pickett visited Mordecai in Dudleyville. Pickett gathered information from him to use in his book, History of Alabama.
East of Dudleyville, you can find the County Line Baptist Church. This historic church is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This means it's a special place recognized for its historical importance.
