A Big Event in Courtney's History
On April 23, 1913, a serious accident happened at a coal mine in Courtney. This mine was owned by the Monongahela River Coal company. A large explosion occurred, trapping about 250 workers inside the mine. This tragic event led to the loss of many lives, making it a very sad day for the community.
