Who is Courtney Hodder?

Courtney Hodder is a proud Noongar and Yamatji woman. She grew up in Perth, Western Australia. As a young athlete, she played junior football for Peel Thunder. She was so good that she was chosen for three Under-18 All-Australian teams. This shows she was a top player from a young age.

Courtney's Rugby Career

Courtney started her professional sports journey in rugby union. She played for the Western Force in 2018. This was the first year of the Super W competition. In one amazing game, she scored six tries against the Melbourne Rebels. She ended that season as the player who scored the most tries in the whole league.

In 2019, Courtney had a tough time. She broke her leg, which stopped her from playing. After she recovered, she was chosen to play for Australia A. This was in the Oceania Rugby Women's Championship. She played two games for the national team.

She returned to the Super W in 2020. This time, she played for the Queensland Reds. Even though the season was shorter, she still managed to score five tries.

Switching to Australian Rules Football

On August 28, 2020, the Brisbane Lions signed Courtney. They brought her into the team as a rookie from another sport. This meant she was starting a new sport professionally.

She made her big debut in the 2021 AFL Women's season. In her very first game against Richmond, she kicked a goal with her first ever kick! This was a fantastic start to her AFLW career. She quickly became known for her speed and exciting plays.
