Courtney Mariah Rose Hodder (born 8 July 2000) is a talented Australian athlete. She plays Australian rules football for the Brisbane Lions in the AFL Women's (AFLW) league. Before playing Aussie Rules, Courtney was a rugby union star. She played for the Western Force and the Queensland Reds. She was even the top try-scorer in the Super W rugby competition in 2018.

Early Life and Junior Sports
Courtney Hodder is a Noongar and Yamatji woman. She grew up in Perth, Australia. As a young athlete, she played junior football for the Peel Thunder club. Her skills were clear from a young age. She was chosen for three Under-18 All-Australian teams. This showed she was one of the best young players in the country.
Rugby Union Career
Starting in Super W Rugby
Courtney began her professional rugby career in 2018. She joined the Western Force team. This was during the very first season of the Super W competition. She quickly made a big impact.
Top Try-Scorer
In her first Super W season, Courtney was amazing. She scored six tries in just one game against the Melbourne Rebels. A "try" is like scoring a touchdown in rugby. By the end of the season, she was the top try-scorer in the whole competition.
Overcoming Injuries
Courtney faced a challenge in 2019. She broke her leg and could not play in the Super W season. After she recovered, she was selected to play for Australia A. This was a special team that played in the Oceania Rugby Women's Championship. She played two games for Australia A.
Return to Rugby
In 2020, Courtney returned to the Super W. She joined the Queensland Reds team. She continued to show her scoring ability. She scored five tries during that shorter season.
Australian Rules Football Career
Joining the AFLW
On 28 August 2020, Courtney made a big switch. The Brisbane Lions signed her to play in the 2021 AFL Women's season. She joined as a special "other-sport rookie." This meant she was a talented athlete from another sport.
A Strong Start
Courtney made her AFLW debut in Round 1 of the 2021 season. Her first game was against the Richmond team. She kicked a goal with her very first kick in the league! This was a fantastic way to start her new career.
Key Achievements
Courtney has achieved a lot in her AFLW career. She was nominated for the AFL Women's Rising Star award in 2021. This award celebrates the best young players. She also won the Goal of the Year award in 2021 for an amazing goal.
She has been part of two AFLW premiership-winning teams. The Brisbane Lions won the Grand Final in both the 2021 and 2023 seasons. This means her team won the championship twice! As of the end of the 2023 season, she had played 49 games and kicked 33 goals.
