Cove Springs is a small community in Texas that doesn't have its own local government. It's called an unincorporated community. It is located in the northwestern part of Cherokee County, Texas, United States. In 2000, about 40 people lived there. It is part of a larger area called the Tyler-Jacksonville combined statistical area.
History of Cove Springs
The area where Cove Springs is today was first settled in the 1850s. It got its name from a special hot spring. This spring was a popular stopping point for travelers on the old Neches Saline Road.
A Methodist church was built around the year 1900. Later, a Baptist church was established in 1932. After World War II, Cove Springs had both churches, several businesses, and homes spread out.
Over time, some people moved away from the community. But even in the early 1990s, Cove Springs still had its two churches and a few businesses. By 2000, the population was 40 people.
Where is Cove Springs?
Cove Springs is found along U.S. Highway 175. It is about 18 miles (29 km) northwest of Rusk. This places it in the northwestern part of Cherokee County.
Education in Cove Springs
Cove Springs had its own school in 1896. At that time, 23 students were enrolled there. Today, the area is part of the Jacksonville Independent School District. Students from Cove Springs attend schools within this district.
