How Cowan Got Its Name
Did you know that Cowan wasn't always called Cowan? In the 1860s, this area was known as Farmersville. This name probably came about because there were many farms and farming families living here.
The community later got its name from a man named John Samuel Cowan. He was a "Loyalist," which means he supported the British during the American Revolution. In 1785, he received official permission to own the land from the people who originally owned Pennsylvania.
