Union County is a special area in Pennsylvania, a state in the United States. In 2020, about 42,681 people lived there. The main town, or county seat, is Lewisburg.
Union County was created on March 22, 1813. It was formed from a part of Northumberland County. The name "Union" was chosen to represent the idea of the United States as one strong country.
At first, Mifflinburg was the county seat. Then, in 1815, it moved to New Berlin. Finally, in 1855, Lewisburg became the county seat, and it has been ever since. Union County is part of a larger area called the Lewisburg, PA Micropolitan Statistical Area. It's also included in the Bloomsburg–Berwick–Sunbury, PA Combined Statistical Area. This county is located in the central part of Pennsylvania.

Most people in the county were White (about 90%). Other groups included Black or African American (about 7%), Asian (about 1%), and Native American (a small percentage). About 4% of the population was Hispanic or Latino.
Many people in Union County have roots from different countries. About 41% had German family backgrounds, 14% American, 6.5% Irish, 5.9% English, and 5.3% Italian. Most people (about 90%) spoke English at home. Some also spoke Spanish, Pennsylvania Dutch, or German.
In 2000, about 31% of households had children under 18 living with them. About 60% were married couples. The average household had 2.5 people.

Lewisburg Micropolitan Area

The U.S. government has named Union County the Lewisburg, PA Micropolitan Statistical Area. In 2010, this area had 44,947 people. It was the 12th most populated micropolitan area in Pennsylvania.
Union County is also part of a bigger area called the Bloomsburg–Berwick–Sunbury, PA Combined Statistical Area (CSA). This larger area includes Union County and four other counties: Columbia, Montour, Northumberland, and Snyder Counties. In 2010, this combined area had 264,739 people.
