Cox, Missouri facts for kids
Imagine a small place in Missouri that isn't quite a town or a city. That's what an unincorporated community is! One such place is called Cox, located in Macon County. It's a quiet spot in the United States.
How Cox Got Its Name
Have you ever wondered how places get their names? The community of Cox is named after a person! Back in 1887, a special building called a post office was opened there. A post office is where people send and receive mail. The person in charge of this post office was named W. S. Cox. He was an early postmaster, which means he managed the mail for the area. The community was given his last name, Cox. The post office stayed open for many years, until 1907.
