Coxton is a small place in Indiana. It is known as an unincorporated community. This means it is a settlement that is not part of an official city or town. Coxton is located in Indian Creek Township, which is in Lawrence County.
History
Coxton began to grow when a railroad was built through the area. Railroads were very important a long time ago for travel and moving goods. They helped new communities like Coxton start up.
In 1890, a post office was opened in Coxton. A post office is where people send and receive mail. Having a post office was a big deal for a community. It showed that the area was growing and had enough people to need its own mail service. However, the post office in Coxton closed down in 1903.
