Craig Mitchell Handy (born September 25, 1962) is an amazing American musician. He is best known for playing the tenor saxophone in the world of jazz music.
Craig was born in Oakland, California. He studied music at North Texas State University from 1981 to 1984. After college, he started playing with many famous jazz artists. Some of these include Art Blakey, Wynton Marsalis, Roy Haynes, Elvin Jones, and Betty Carter. He is also a member of the Mingus Big Band, Mingus Dynasty, and Mingus Orchestra. These groups play the music of the legendary jazz composer Charles Mingus.
You might have seen Craig Handy in a movie! He played the role of another famous saxophonist, Coleman Hawkins, in the 1996 film Kansas City. He also helped perform the theme song for season 6 of Cosby Show, a popular TV show.
