The Craig River is a cool river that flows through two countries: Alaska in the United States and British Columbia in Canada. It used to be called the South Fork of the Iskut River because it's the main southern branch of the larger Iskut River.

The Craig River also has a smaller river that flows into it in Alaska, called the South Fork Craig River. The main river starts in Alaska near 56°27′00″N 131°25′00″W / 56.45000°N 131.41667°W / 56.45000; -131.41667 (Craig River (source)) and then crosses the border into British Columbia at 56°29′30″N 131°17′30″W / 56.49167°N 131.29167°W / 56.49167; -131.29167 (Craig River).

Who Was John Craig?

The Craig River was named after a very important person named John Davidson Craig. He was an engineer and a land surveyor. A land surveyor is someone who measures and maps out land, which is super important for drawing borders and planning new areas.

John D. Craig was in charge of surveying the international border in several areas. He worked on mapping rivers like the Unuk River in 1905, the Whiting River in 1906, the Bradfield River in 1907, the Iskut River in 1908, and the Salmon River in 1920.

Because of his important work, John D. Craig was chosen to be the Boundary Commissioner for His Britannic Majesty (which means he represented the British King) on May 7, 1925. This job meant he was responsible for making sure the borders between countries were correctly marked.
