Cravo Norte is a town and a type of local government area called a municipality in the Arauca Department, Colombia. It is believed that a Jesuit missionary named Joseph Gumilla started the town in 1538. The first official count of people living there happened in May 1797, and at that time, only 205 people were recorded.

Cravo Norte has a warm and wet climate, which scientists call a tropical monsoon climate. This type of climate means the area has a long rainy season and a shorter dry season.

From December to March, Cravo Norte experiences very little rain. This is its dry period. However, from April to November, the weather changes dramatically. During these months, it rains a lot, and sometimes the rainfall can be very heavy!
