What's the Story About?
This book tells the story of a 14-year-old boy named Bobby. He's the one telling the story. Bobby often gets into trouble and makes some bad choices.
Bobby's New Start
Bobby's mom decides to move him and his younger brother, Dennis, to a small cottage. This new home is located near Ennis in County Clare, Ireland. Bobby isn't happy about the move at all. All he can think about is getting back to his old life in Dublin.
A Trip Back to Dublin
Eventually, Bobby takes a car without permission and heads back to Dublin. He hopes to find things just as they were. But when he gets there, he realizes that everything has changed. His old life isn't waiting for him anymore. He feels like he doesn't belong there.
Returning Home and a New Job
Reluctantly, Bobby goes back to the cottage in County Clare. A kind local farmer offers him some work. This gives Bobby a chance to start fresh and learn new things.
The Mysterious Fairy Forts
The cottage where Bobby and his family live is in a special place. It's on a path between two ancient fairy forts. The farmer's mother warns them about these forts. She tells them they should leave out a bowl of milk every night. This is a tradition to keep the fairies happy.
A Surprising Visitor
Bobby's family doesn't take the warning seriously. They think it's just an old story. Because they don't leave out the milk, something unexpected happens. A tiny, old fairy woman comes right into their kitchen! She enters through the dog flap.
Bobby's Reaction
Dennis, Bobby's younger brother, sees the fairy woman and accepts her presence. He isn't scared at all. But for Bobby, it's a very confusing and a little bit scary mystery. He has to figure out what this strange event means.
