Crimson is a beautiful, deep red color with a hint of purple. Imagine a strong, bright red mixed with a tiny bit of blue – that's how you get crimson!
This special color originally came from a dye made from tiny insects called Kermes vermilio. People would dry these insects and use them to create the rich crimson dye. The word crimson has been used in the English language for a very long time, since about the year 1400.
