Cristina Georgiana Neagu (born 26 August 1988) is a Romanian professional handball player. She plays as a left back for CSM București. She also used to play for the Romanian national team.

Many people think Cristina is the best handball player in the world. Some even say she is the greatest of all time! She is the only female handball player ever to win the IHF World Player of the Year award four times. She won it in 2010, 2015, 2016, and 2018. She also won the EHF Player of the Year award twice, in 2017 and 2018. This is a record! She has been chosen for the All-EHF Champions League All-Star Team seven times.

Cristina scores a lot of goals. She is the all-time top scorer in the European Championship with 303 goals. She was the top scorer and best player (MVP) at the 2015 World Championship. She also led the EHF Champions League in scoring three times.

In 2017, Cristina Neagu was made an Honorary Citizen of Bucharest, her hometown.

Early Life and Start in Handball

Cristina Neagu was born in Bucharest, Romania. She grew up in the Ghencea area. She is the youngest of three children. When she was 12 years old, her middle school coach, Maria Covaci, introduced her to handball. This is how her amazing journey in the sport began!

Her Professional Handball Journey

Cristina Neagu has played for several top handball clubs. She started her senior career in Romania. Later, she played for Budućnost in Montenegro. Since 2017, she has been playing for CSM București.

Overcoming Challenges

Cristina has faced some tough injuries during her career. In 2010, she hurt her right shoulder. It took her a long time to recover, about 1 year and 7 months. She worked hard to get back on the court.

In 2013, she got another serious injury to her left knee. She needed surgery and was out for six months. But Cristina is very determined. She always came back stronger after these setbacks.

Big Wins and Awards

After her injuries, Cristina Neagu made an amazing comeback. In 2014, she reached the final of the Champions League with Budućnost. She was also named the best left back at the 2014 European Championship.

In 2015, Cristina won her first Champions League trophy. This is one of the biggest club competitions in handball! She was also the top scorer in that tournament.

At the 2015 World Championship in Denmark, Cristina was incredible. She scored 63 goals, making her the top scorer. She was also named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the entire tournament!

Cristina has won many medals with the Romanian national team. She earned a bronze medal at the 2015 World Championship. She also won a bronze medal at the 2010 European Championship. In that tournament, she was the top scorer and had the most assists.
