Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Cristina Rodríguez was the daughter of a famous Spanish hero named El Cid (whose real name was Rodrigo Díaz) and his wife, Jimena Díaz. She was born around the year 1075.

Cristina lived in a time when powerful families often married each other to create strong alliances. Around 1099, or possibly earlier, Cristina married a nobleman named Ramiro Sánchez of Pamplona. Ramiro was an important leader who became the governor of Monzón starting in 1104.

Her Family and Royal Connections

Cristina Rodríguez had two children who became important figures in history. Her most famous child was her son, García Ramírez of Navarre. He later became the King of Navarre and was known as el Restaurador, which means "the Restorer," because he helped bring back the kingdom's strength. In 1130, King García Ramírez married a woman named Margaret of L'Aigle.

Cristina also had a daughter named Elvira Ramírez. Elvira married Rodrigo Gómez before 1137. Rodrigo was the son of a powerful count named Gómez González, who was sometimes called el de Candespina.
