Croft is a small, quiet place in Pratt County, Kansas, United States. It's known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a settlement that doesn't have its own local government, like a city or town does. Instead, it's part of the larger county government. Croft is located about 20 miles southwest of the city of Pratt. You can find it along SW 140th Ave.

History of Croft

Croft was once a bit busier than it is today. In 1910, about 30 people lived there. It was part of a township called Springvale, which doesn't exist anymore.

Railroad and Post Office

Croft used to have a station for the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe railroad. This railway helped people and goods travel. The community also had telephone connections. People could trade goods locally and ship things out.

A post office opened in Croft in 1907. This was important for sending and receiving mail. The post office stayed open for many years. It finally closed down in 1961.

Grain Elevator

For a long time, Croft had a grain elevator. This is a tall building used to store grain, like wheat or corn, from local farms. It was a key part of the community's economy. However, the town's grain elevator closed in the early 1990s.

Education in Croft

Students in the Croft area attend public schools through the Skyline USD 438 school district. This district serves several communities in the region.
