The Church's Story
How Cropredy Methodist Church Began
The Methodist community in Cropredy started a long time ago, around 1822. They had a smaller church building back then. However, by the early 1880s, more and more people joined. The first church became too small for everyone.
Building a New Church
Because the old church was too small, the community decided to build a new one. The first stones for the new church were laid on Easter Monday, April 18, 1881. This was a big day for the village!
The new church was designed by an architect named Edward Pincher. He was from West Bromwich. The building was finished very quickly, by August of the same year. It could hold up to 200 people.
The builder was Thomas Cherry, who lived in Cropredy. Caleb Mander from Banbury helped supervise the work. The first service in the new church was held on August 26, 1881. A special speaker, Rev. F.J. Sharr from London, gave the sermon.
About the Organ
The church has an organ, which is a musical instrument. You can find details about this organ on the National Pipe Organ Register.
