Cropredy Methodist Church is a Christian church located in the village of Cropredy, Oxfordshire. It belongs to the Methodist denomination.
History of the Church
The Methodist community in Cropredy started around 1822. They had a first chapel, but by the early 1880s, it was too small. More space was needed for everyone.
So, plans were made for a brand new church building. The first stones for the new chapel were laid on April 18, 1881. This was on Easter Monday.
The church was designed by an architect named Edward Pincher. He was from West Bromwich. The new chapel was built to hold up to 200 people. It was finished very quickly, by August of the same year.
Thomas Cherry, a builder from Cropredy, constructed the church. Caleb Mander of Banbury supervised the work. The first service in the new church was held on August 26, 1881. Reverend F.J. Sharr from London gave the sermon.
