Crugers, New York, got its name from a person called Colonel John P. Cruger. He was an important figure in the area's past.

Years ago, Crugers had two train stations. These stations were on the Hudson Line, which is a train route. One station was called Oscawana Station. The other was simply named Crugers Station. It was located near Crugers Avenue.
