Crystal LED facts for kids
Crystal LED is a cool new way to make screens for things like TVs and computers. It's different from older screen technologies because it makes each tiny light (called a pixel) light up all by itself! This technology helps create super clear and bright pictures.

What is Crystal LED?
Crystal LED is a special way to build screens. Instead of using one big light behind the screen, it uses millions of tiny lights, called pixels. Each pixel is like a tiny light bulb that can turn on and off, and change its color all by itself. This means the screen can show very deep blacks and super bright colors at the same time.
How Crystal LED Screens Work
Think of a screen as a giant grid of tiny dots. Each dot is a pixel. In a Crystal LED screen, every single pixel has its own tiny light. These lights are made of three colors: red, green, and blue (RGB). By mixing these three colors at different brightness levels, each pixel can create any color you see on the screen. Because each pixel lights up on its own, the screen can show parts that are totally dark right next to parts that are very bright. This makes pictures look more real and vibrant.
Crystal LED vs. Other Screens
You might have heard of other screen types, like LCD screens. Here's how Crystal LED is different:
- LCD Screens: These screens usually have a big light source (called a backlight) behind them. This backlight shines white light through the screen. Then, tiny filters in front of each pixel block out the colors that aren't needed. It's a bit like shining a flashlight through colored glass.
- Crystal LED Screens: With Crystal LED, there's no backlight needed. Each pixel is its own light source. This makes the screen thinner and can save energy. It also means the screen can show true black colors because pixels can simply turn off completely.
When Was Crystal LED Invented?
The company Sony first showed off its Crystal LED display technology. They introduced it to the world at a big event called CES in 2012. CES is a huge technology show where companies reveal their newest inventions.
