Serving Erie County
Before working for the state, Crystal Peoples-Stokes was part of the Erie County Legislature. She represented the 7th District. She served in this role from 1993 to 2002.
Joining the State Assembly
In 2000, Peoples-Stokes ran for a seat in the State Assembly. She challenged the person who held the seat before her, Arthur O. Eve. This election was a very close race. Even though she didn't win that time, her campaign helped more people vote.
Peoples-Stokes was elected to the New York State Assembly in November 2002. This happened after Arthur Eve retired. She ran for re-election in November 2008 and November 2010. She won both times without anyone running against her.
