Cuéntame (which means Tell me in English) is the sixth studio album by the Mexican singer Lucerito. It came out in 1989. Many songs from this album were also used in the movie Deliciosa Sinvergüenza (1989). The album even has a cover of the song "It's a Sin" by Pet Shop Boys, which they called "Hojas Secas."

Cuéntame is one of Lucerito's most successful albums. It was important because it marked her change from being a teen star to a more grown-up artist. This was the last album where she used the name "Lucerito."

The album was produced by José Ramón Florez, who also wrote most of the songs. Five songs from the album were released as "singles," which are songs released separately to promote the album. The main song, "Cuéntame," was a big hit. It reached number 2 on the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks chart in the United States. Other popular singles were "Corazón a la Deriva," "Tanto," "Madre," and "Caso Perdido."

About the Album

Cuéntame was released when Lucero was celebrating 10 years of her music career. This album was made to show her more mature side. Even though her record company, Melody, wanted her to keep the name "Lucerito" for marketing, this was her last album using that name. Her next album, Con Mi Sentimiento (1990), was the first to use just "Lucero."

She recorded the album from January to March 1989. The recording took place in Madrid, Spain, and Bologna, Italy. This was a chance for her to visit some European countries for the first time. Miguel Blasco was the executive producer. He helped create her new look, including the album's art, her clothes, and the music style. J.R. Florez and Loris Ceroni helped choose and write all the music and lyrics. The idea was to show Lucero as a stronger and more mature singer. On the album cover, she wears black leather with studs, big earrings, and curly hair.

How the Album Was Released

Melody decided to launch Cuéntame on the Mexican TV show Siempre en Domingo in June 1989. This was Lucero's sixth full-length studio album.

The first song promoted from the album was "Madre" in April 1989. But the main single was the song "Cuéntame." It became a number-one hit in Mexico. It also reached number two on the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks chart in the United States. This song was even listed among the "Best 100 Songs of the '80s in Spanish" by the TV channel VH1.

"Corazón a la Deriva" was the third single. It reached number 8 on the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks chart. "Tanto" and "Caso Perdido" were also released as singles. The song "Me Gusta Tu Dinero" was used to promote the movie Deliciosa Sinvergüenza (1989).
