Cumberland is a town located in Barron County, in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. In 2020, about 818 people lived there. This was a bit less than the 876 people who lived there in 2010. The nearby City of Cumberland is partly located within the town's area.

Geography of Cumberland

The town of Cumberland is found in the northwest part of Barron County. The city of Cumberland is partly inside the town, near the southeast end of Beaver Dam Lake. The eastern side of this lake also reaches into the town of Cumberland.

Beaver Dam Lake is where the Hay River begins. This river flows south through Cumberland. It then continues into the town of Clinton before joining the Red Cedar River.

Wisconsin Highway 48 crosses the northern part of the town. This highway connects the city of Cumberland to the west with Rice Lake to the east.

The town of Cumberland covers about 85.3 square kilometers (or 32.9 square miles) in total. Most of this area, about 82.8 square kilometers (32.0 square miles), is land. The rest, about 2.5 square kilometers (1.0 square mile), is water, making up about 2.88% of the town's area.

People of Cumberland

Based on the census from 2000, there were 942 people living in the town. There were 360 households and 288 families. The town had about 29.3 people per square mile. Most of the people living in Cumberland were White.

About 30.8% of the households had children under 18 living with them. Many households, about 69.7%, were married couples. About 15.8% of all households were single individuals. Also, 8.3% of households had someone living alone who was 65 years old or older.

The average household had about 2.62 people. The average family had about 2.92 people.

The population was spread out by age. About 25.2% were under 18 years old. About 17.4% were 65 years old or older. The average age in the town was 41 years.
