Curranville, Kansas facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Curranville is a small place located in Crawford County, Kansas, in the United States. Today, it is known as an "unincorporated community." This means it's a group of homes and businesses that don't have their own local government, like a city or town would. Instead, it is managed by the larger county it is in, which is Crawford County.

History of Curranville

Early Days and the Post Office

Like many small communities, Curranville had a short but interesting history. A very important building for any community is a post office. It helps people send and receive letters and packages. Curranville had its own post office. It first opened its doors in 1905. However, it only stayed open for a short time. The post office was closed down in 1915. This might suggest that the community was very small. Or perhaps not many people lived there anymore.

Becoming Incorporated

In 1906, just one year after the post office opened, Curranville became "incorporated." When a place incorporates, it officially becomes a town or city. It gets its own local government. This government can make rules and provide services for the people living there. But it seems Curranville later went back to being an unincorporated community. This means it no longer has its own separate local government.
