Curtis Glenn Ford (born October 11, 1960) is an American former professional baseball player. He was an outfielder in Major League Baseball (MLB). Curt played for the St. Louis Cardinals and Philadelphia Phillies. His career in the big leagues lasted from 1985 to 1990.
Playing Career Highlights
Curt Ford went to Murrah High School and then Jackson State University. He played college baseball for the Jackson State Tigers. The St. Louis Cardinals picked Ford in the fourth round of the 1981 MLB Draft. This means they chose him to join their team from a group of many talented young players.
He made his first appearance in Major League Baseball on June 22, 1985. This was with the St. Louis Cardinals. Curt played very well in the 1987 World Series. He had a batting average of .308 against the Minnesota Twins.
After the 1988 season, the Cardinals made a trade. They sent Ford and Steve Lake to the Philadelphia Phillies. In return, the Cardinals received Milt Thompson. During his time in MLB, Curt Ford hit seven home runs. He also had 89 runs batted in (RBIs). His career batting average was .245.
After Playing Baseball
After his playing days, Curt Ford continued to be involved in baseball. On May 12, 2010, he became a manager. He managed the Springfield Sliders. This is a college baseball team that uses wood bats. The team plays in the Prospect League. Their home field is Lanphier Park in Springfield, Illinois. Curt took over as manager from Jack Clark.
