Czar, Missouri facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Czar is a small, quiet place in southeastern Crawford County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. It's known as an unincorporated community, which means it's a group of homes and buildings that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government. Think of it as a neighborhood without a mayor or city council.

Where is Czar?

Czar is nestled on the east side of Shoal Creek. You can find it along Missouri Route Y, which is a road that winds through the area. It's about four miles north of another small place called Viburnum. In the area around Czar, you'll find a church and a cemetery about half a mile to the northwest. There's also a tall structure called the Czar Lookout Tower, sitting on a ridge about a mile northeast, also along Route Y.

A Look Back: Czar's History

Czar once had its own post office! It opened its doors in 1889, helping people send and receive mail. However, it didn't stay open forever. The post office closed down in 1916. One interesting thing about Czar is that no one is quite sure how it got its name. The word "Czar" usually refers to a powerful emperor, like those who once ruled Russia, but the connection to this small Missouri community remains a mystery.
