Grantley Evan Marshall (born 18 December 1959), known as Daddy G, is a British DJ. He is a founding member of the famous band Massive Attack.

Who is Daddy G?

Daddy G, whose real name is Grantley Marshall, was born in Bristol, England. His parents came from the West Indies. He grew up loving music and became a DJ at a young age.

Early Music Days

In the 1980s, Daddy G joined a group called The Wild Bunch. This was a "sound system," which is like a mobile DJ crew. They would play music at parties and events. He was one of the youngest DJs in Bristol at that time.

Other future members of Massive Attack, like Robert del Naja and Andrew Vowles, were also part of The Wild Bunch. The group was very popular in Bristol's music scene.

Forming Massive Attack

The Wild Bunch eventually broke up in 1986. But Daddy G, Robert del Naja, and Andrew Vowles decided to keep making music together. In 1988, they formed a new band called Massive Attack.

Massive Attack became famous for a new style of music called trip hop. This sound mixed hip-hop beats with electronic music and soulful vocals. They helped create what is known as the "Bristol Sound." Other bands like Portishead also helped define this unique sound.

Later Work with Massive Attack

Between 2001 and 2005, Daddy G took a break from some of Massive Attack's projects. He didn't work much on their album 100th Window.

Later, he rejoined the band for albums like Heligoland. He and Robert del Naja often worked on different songs separately. They would choose their own musical partners for each song.

Other Music Projects

In 2004, Daddy G also mixed a special CD for a music series called DJ-Kicks. This showed off his skills as a DJ and music mixer.
