Early Life and Education

Dafina Zeqiri Nushi started her musical journey at a young age. From 1997 to 2002, she studied at the Prenk Jakova music school in Pristina. After that, she went on to study music composition at the University of Pristina. She learned from a well-known composer named Mendi Mengjiqi and finished her studies there in 2007.

Later, Dafina continued her education to get her master's degree. She studied with Jana Andreevska at Ss. Cyril and Methodius University of Skopje and completed her degree in 2011.

Important Work and Achievements

Dafina Zeqiri is not just a composer; she also helps other women in music. In 2009, she started an organization called Kosovar Women in Music, also known as NEO MUSICA. She also became a member of an international group called the International Honour Committee of the Fondazione Adkins Chiti: Donne in Musica. This group supports women who create music.

Her music is mostly played by instruments. Some of her early pieces include Quasi Variazione for piano (2000) and Dialog for violin and piano (2001). She also writes music for singers and choirs. For example, she wrote My Mother (2001) for a mixed choir and Odisea (2008).

Music Performances and Awards

Dafina Zeqiri's music has been performed at many important events. In 2011, her pieces were played at the Days of Macedonian Music Festival. Her work was also featured at the Festival DAM in Pristina in 2010.

In 2010, her piece Dream for solo violin was played in London, UK. This happened during a special project at the British Museum. Other pieces of hers were also performed at Willton's Music Hall in London.

Dafina has won several awards for her compositions. In 2009, her piece Atmospheres for chorus and orchestra won the Theodore Front Prize. This award came from the International Alliance for Women in Music. In early 2012, her new work, Variations for Piano, won second prize at the Chopin Kosova Festival. Later that year, in April 2012, her chamber music piece Përreth (meaning "Around") won a prize from Kosovo's Ministry of Culture.
