He joined a team called Cosmo Oil (later known as Cosmo Oil Yokkaichi). This team played in the Japan Football League (JFL), which was an important league in Japan at the time.
From his very first season, Daiki played in many matches. He often played as a right side back, helping his team both defend and attack. However, his time with Cosmo Oil Yokkaichi ended when the club stopped playing at the end of the 1996 season.
Moving to New Teams
In 1997, Daiki moved to another JFL team, Montedio Yamagata. He quickly became a key player for them and played regularly for two seasons.
In 1998, he had a short loan spell at Shimizu S-Pulse. This team was in the top Japanese league, called J1 League. Even though he was part of a big club, he didn't get to play in any matches during this time.
Success with Oita Trinita
In 1999, Daiki joined Oita Trinita. This team had just been promoted to the J2 League, which is the second-highest professional football league in Japan. He became a regular player for Oita Trinita and helped them achieve great success.
In 2002, Oita Trinita won the J2 League championship! This meant they were promoted to the J1 League for the 2003 season. While playing in J1, Daiki's chances to play in matches became fewer.
Final Season and Retirement
In 2004, Daiki Wakamatsu moved to another J2 League team, Omiya Ardija. He played in many matches for them during that season. At the end of the 2004 season, Daiki decided to retire from professional football.
