Dalton is a small, unincorporated community located in Avon Township, Sumner County, Kansas, United States. An unincorporated community is a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Dalton is situated about halfway between the towns of Wellington and Oxford. You can find it where S Oliver Road and E 15th Street S meet, right next to an old, unused railroad track.
A Look Back in Time
Dalton used to be an important stop along the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. This railway line previously ran through the community from east to west. It connected the towns of Oxford and Wellington.
A post office, which is a place where mail is handled, was opened in Dalton in 1885. It served the community for many years. However, the post office eventually closed down in 1939.
