Damascus is a small place in Illinois, United States. It is known as an unincorporated community. This means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's part of a larger area called Stephenson County.
You can find Damascus where two county roads, Route 5 and Route 26, meet. It's about 3.75 miles (6.04 km) west of a town called Cedarville.
History of Damascus
Damascus was first planned out in the year 1837. This is when people started to settle and build homes there.
Later, in 1854, a post office was opened in Damascus. This was important for people to send and receive letters. The post office served the community for many years. It finally closed down in 1906.
