Damien Hayes, born on February 18, 1982, is a famous Irish hurler. He played as a corner-forward for the Galway senior team. He was a key player from 2001 until he retired in 2015.
Damien grew up in Portumna, County Galway. He went to school there. Later, he studied at Limerick Institute of Technology (LIT). While at LIT, he won the Ryan Cup, a college hurling competition. Today, he works in his family's car sales business in Portumna.

Damien Hayes' Hurling Career
Playing for Galway County Team
Damien Hayes had a very successful hurling career. With the Galway county team, he won many awards. He earned two All-Ireland minor medals. These are for younger players.
He also won two National Hurling League medals. These were in 2004 and 2010. Damien was also chosen for three All-Star Awards. This shows he was one of the best players in the country.
In 2012, Damien was part of a special Galway team. They won their first ever Leinster title. This was a big moment for Galway hurling. He also won a Railway Cup medal with Connacht.
Damien played in two All-Ireland senior finals. His team finished as runners-up both times. He announced he was retiring from county hurling in January 2015.
Playing for Portumna Club
Damien Hayes also had a very successful club career. He played for his local club, Portumna. With Portumna, he won six Galway Senior Hurling titles.
He also won three All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship medals. These were in 2006, 2008, and 2009. Damien also helped Portumna win seven Senior League Titles.
His great play was recognized with individual awards. He was named Connacht provincial Hurler of the Year twice. This happened in 2005 and 2006. He was also Galway's Hurler of the Year three times. These years were 2005, 2006, and 2010.

Besides hurling, Damien Hayes also loves rugby. He played rugby when he was younger. He even won an All-Ireland Under-18 medal. He played as a winger for the Nenagh team.
