Damien Hayes is a famous Irish hurler who played as a forward. He was born on 18 February 1982. He played for the Galway county team from 2001 until 2015.
Damien Hayes was born in Portumna, County Galway. He went to school in his local area. Later, he studied at Limerick Institute of Technology (LIT). He even won the Ryan Cup while he was there. Today, Damien works in his family's car sales business in Portumna.

Damien Hayes has had a very successful career in hurling. Hurling is a fast-paced Irish sport played with a stick and ball. He has won many awards and championships.
Playing for Galway County
Damien played for the Galway county team for many years. He helped them win two All-Ireland minor medals when he was younger. He also won two National Hurling League Medals in 2004 and 2010. These are big achievements in Irish hurling.
He was also part of the Galway team that won their first ever Leinster title in 2012. This was a very special moment for Galway hurling. Damien also received three All-Star Awards. These awards celebrate the best players in Ireland each year. He also won a Railway Cup medal playing for Connacht.
Success with Portumna Club
Damien Hayes also had amazing success with his local club team, Portumna. He helped Portumna win six Galway Senior Hurling titles. This means they were the best team in Galway county six times!
He also won three All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship medals. These were in 2006, 2008, and 2009. Winning an All-Ireland club title means your team is the best club team in all of Ireland. Damien also won seven Senior League Titles with Portumna.
Awards and Retirement
Damien was named the Connacht provincial Hurler of the Year twice, in 2005 and 2006. He was also Galway's Hurler of the Year three times: in 2005, 2006, and 2010. He stopped playing inter-county hurling in January 2015.
Beyond Hurling: Rugby
Hurling is Damien's main sport, but he also loves rugby. He even won an All-Ireland Under-18 medal in rugby. He played as a winger for the Nenagh team.
