Dan Lane's Hurling Career
Playing for His Club
Dan Lane played hurling with his local club, Aghabullogue. He had some great success with them. In 1890, his team won the county senior championship. They beat Aghada with a score of 7-3 to 1-1. This win is still Aghabullogue's only senior county final victory.
Playing for Cork
Dan Lane became well-known in inter-county hurling in 1890. This was when his Aghabullogue team represented Cork. That year, he played in his first provincial final. Kerry was the opposing team. Cork won the game by 2-0 to 0-1. This was Dan Lane's first Munster title.
Winning the All-Ireland
Cork's next big game was the All-Ireland final against Wexford. This game was quite eventful. During the match, a Cork player got his toe broken. As the captain, Dan Lane led his team off the field to protest. At that moment, Cork was behind in the score. However, the GAA's main council later supported Cork's protest. Because of this, Dan Lane and his team were awarded the All-Ireland title. This was his only season playing for Cork.
