The House of Dandolo was a very important family in the Republic of Venice. This family was part of the "patrician" class, which meant they were noble and powerful. Over time, four members of the Dandolo family became Doges. A Doge was like the elected leader or duke of Venice. The first known member of this family was a merchant named Domenico. The family became much more successful around the early 1100s.

Early Dandolos
- Domenico Dandolo (lived around 1085–1107) was a nobleman in Venice. He had several sons who also became important.

- Vitale Dandolo was a smart lawyer. He worked as an ambassador for Venice in Ferrara. He was also a bailo in Constantinople, which meant he was a Venetian official in that city.
- Enrico Dandolo (around 1107–1205) was one of the most famous Doges of Venice. He led Venice from 1192 to 1205. He was very old when he became Doge, but he was a strong leader.
- Raniero Dandolo (lived around 1204–1242) was an admiral and a high-ranking official. He served as Vice-Doge, helping to lead Venice.
- Enrico Dandolo (around 1107–1205) was one of the most famous Doges of Venice. He led Venice from 1192 to 1205. He was very old when he became Doge, but he was a strong leader.
