Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Daniel Evans (born January 16, 1774 – died March 3, 1835) was a special kind of church leader called an independent minister. He worked in a place called Mynyddbach in Glamorganshire, Wales.

Life Story

Daniel Evans was born in a town called Maindala in Eglwyswrw, Pembrokeshire, on January 16, 1774. When he was young, he really enjoyed going to prayer meetings that people held in their homes.

He joined the church at a young age. Soon after, he started sharing his messages with great excitement, going from house to house. This helped him get ready for his future work. He became very good at spreading his message to others.

His first job as a church leader was in Llanwrtyd, Brecknockshire. From 1796 to 1799, he shared the role of minister with another person named Rev. Isaac Price.

In 1799, he moved to Bangor. His church there only had 25 members, and they couldn't pay him much money each year. Daniel often wondered why he had come to such a poor place. But he was thankful that he had some of his own money to help him. He worked hard and made his own church bigger. He also started seven new churches nearby, and several of them were able to support themselves.

In 1808, Daniel moved to Mynyddbach. Here, he was also very successful. In just six months, between 1828 and 1829, he helped 650 new people join his churches! Daniel Evans passed away in Mynyddbach on March 3, 1835.
