Daniel Picouly is a famous French writer. He was born on October 21, 1948, in a town called Villemomble in France. He is known for writing many books, including stories about his own childhood.
Daniel Picouly grew up in a very large family. He was one of 13 children! His parents were originally from Martinique, an island that is part of France. Before becoming a writer, he worked as a professor of economics in Paris.

Becoming a Writer
Daniel Picouly started his writing career in 1992. His first novel was called The Light of Fools. He got some help from another well-known writer, Daniel Pennac, to publish it.
His Big Success
In 1995, Daniel Picouly became very popular with his book The Field of People. This book, like many of his others, tells stories about his childhood in a fun, novel way. He even played himself in a movie called Imposture in 2005.
On Television
Daniel Picouly has also been a host on TV. He hosted a show about culture called Café Picouly on the French TV channel France 5.
Literary Shows
From 2008 to 2009, he presented a show called Café littéraire
