Who Was Daniel Thew Wright?
Daniel Thew Wright was born in Riverside in 1864. Back then, Riverside was its own town. His father, D. Thew Wright, was also a judge.
Becoming a Lawyer and Judge
Daniel Thew Wright went to the University of Cincinnati College of Law. He finished his studies in 1887. After that, he became a lawyer in Cincinnati.
He later held several important jobs. He was a judge in local courts. Then, he became a judge for the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. He served there before he retired.
Building His Home
In 1895, Daniel Thew Wright was a judge. He bought some land from his father in Riverside. Soon after, he started building the house we see today.

The Daniel Thew Wright House is made of wood. It sits on a strong foundation of stone. The house has many interesting design features.
Colonial Revival Style
The house is a great example of the Colonial Revival style. This style brings back popular designs from early American homes.
Architectural Details
You can see special windows called Palladian windows. These have a large arch in the middle. There are also pilasters, which are like flat columns. They have Ionic tops, called capitals.
Look closely, and you'll spot dentils. These are small, tooth-like blocks under the roof edges. The house also has pediments. These are triangle shapes above the gables, which are the pointed parts of the roof.
Inside the House
Inside, the house shows Neoclassical design. This style is inspired by ancient Greek and Roman art. You can see it in the fireplace mantels. The doors and doorways also have special trim with these designs.
A Recognized Historic Site
In 1982, the Daniel Thew Wright House was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This means it's an important building. It was chosen for its role in local history. Its special architecture also made it stand out.
It is one of two historic houses on River Road in Riverside. The other is the Matthew McWilliams House. That house is even older and is a short distance away.
