Daniel Wass's Early Football Days
Daniel Wass spent most of his childhood playing football for a club called BK Avarta in Copenhagen. In 2006, when he was 17, a bigger club named Brøndby noticed his talent. He quickly moved to Brøndby and played for their youth teams for a year. After that, he joined the club's main senior team.
Daniel Wass's Club Career Journey
Playing for Brøndby (First Time)
Daniel Wass made his first team debut for Brøndby in the 2007–08 season. He played in about half of the games that season. However, he had to stop playing for a while because of an injury.
After he recovered, Daniel became a regular right defender for Brøndby in the 2008–09 season. He played in 28 out of 33 games. His strong play helped Brøndby finish third in the Danish Superliga. This was their best finish in several years.
In 2009, Brøndby decided to loan Daniel to Fredrikstad, a club in Norway. This was to help him get more experience. He played only three games there before returning to Brøndby in December 2009. For the rest of the 2009–10 season, Daniel played many more games and became a key player for Brøndby.
The 2010–11 season showed how important Daniel was to the Brøndby team. He was the first-choice right-back for the first 19 games. In February 2011, Daniel announced he would not sign a new contract with Brøndby. There were rumors he would move to Benfica. In March 2011, his coach moved him to play as a right midfielder or winger because of his attacking skills. In his last games for Brøndby, Daniel scored three goals. He helped the team finish third in the league for the third time in a row.
Moving to Benfica and Loan to Évian
On 20 May 2011, Daniel Wass signed a five-year contract with Benfica, a big club in Portugal. However, he did not play any official games for Benfica. On 22 July 2011, he was loaned out to Evian Thonon Gaillard F.C. in France. At Évian, Daniel joined other Danish players.
At first, Daniel did not play much for Évian. But he made his debut on 15 October 2011, playing in right midfield. He quickly made an impact by helping set up a goal. He then scored goals in two games in a row. Under a new coach, Daniel became a regular player, often playing as a left-back. He scored his fourth goal of the season in a win against Ajaccio.
Joining Évian Permanently
On 20 June 2012, Daniel Wass officially signed a permanent contract with Évian. The transfer fee was about €2.5 million. In the first game of the new season on 12 August 2012, Daniel scored a goal from a free kick. Just like before, he played in many different positions in defense and midfield for Évian. He scored another goal against Ajaccio in January 2013.
Time at Celta Vigo

On 22 June 2015, Daniel Wass moved to Spain and joined Celta Vigo. He signed a four-year contract with the club.
During his time there, Daniel scored a goal and helped set up another in an exciting 2–2 draw against Real Madrid.
Playing for Valencia
On 10 July 2018, Daniel Wass joined Valencia, another Spanish club. He signed a four-year deal. He made his first appearance for Valencia on 20 August in a league match. He helped set up a goal in a 1–1 draw against Atlético Madrid.
His first goal for Valencia came on 14 April 2019, in a 3–1 away win against Villarreal in the UEFA Europa League. Daniel was a starter in the 2019 Copa del Rey Final. Valencia won the trophy after beating Barcelona 2–1. This was Daniel's first major trophy in his career.
On 27 November 2019, Daniel scored a surprising goal in a UEFA Champions League match. His cross from a difficult angle went straight into the net, helping Valencia finish first in their group. The game ended in a 2–2 draw.
Brief Spell at Atlético Madrid
On 27 January 2022, Atlético Madrid announced they had signed Daniel Wass. He signed a contract until 2023. He made his first game for the club on 6 February. He came on as a substitute in a 4–2 loss against Barcelona. Sadly, this was his only game for Atlético Madrid. He suffered a knee injury in that match, which ended his season.
Returning to Brøndby (Second Time)
On 12 August 2022, Daniel Wass made a permanent move back to Brøndby from Atlético Madrid. He played his first game back for Brøndby two days later. He started as a right-back in a 2–0 home win against OB.
Brøndby had announced on 24 July 2022 that Daniel would sign a contract until June 2025. This marked his return to the club where he began his professional career.
Before the 2024–25 season, the head coach Jesper Sørensen decided to remove Daniel Wass from his role as team captain. However, after Sørensen left and Frederik Birk became the new head coach, Daniel was made captain again at the start of the 2025–26 season.
Brøndby started the 2025–26 Superliga season with a win under Daniel's captaincy. This placed them first in the league after the first round of games.
On 5 March 2025, Brøndby extended Daniel Wass's contract by another year. This means he will stay with the club until June 2026. His new contract also includes a plan for him to take on a non-playing role at the club after he retires from playing.
