Dante Parini (born October 21, 1890, in Milan, Italy – died April 11, 1969, in Milan) was a talented Italian artist. He was known for his amazing sculptures and also for his paintings.
About Dante Parini
Dante Parini went to the Brera Academy, a famous art school in Milan. He learned from great teachers like Enrico Butti. He also became good friends with another artist, Giannino Castiglioni, and they often worked on ideas together.
During World War II, Parini served his country. He was recognized for his bravery and heroic actions.
His Sculptures
Parini became well-known for creating monuments. These are large sculptures built to remember important events or people. He often made monuments for soldiers who died in the world wars. He also created sculptures for burial sites. He was very skilled, just like his teacher Enrico Butti, but he also had his own special style.
One of his most famous works is a fountain-monument made in 1924. It's located in Piazza Gran Paradiso in Milan. This monument remembers the soldiers from Niguarda who died in the war.
He also created monuments for fallen soldiers in other towns. These include the monument in Tarquinia, which shows deep feelings of sadness and humanity. Another important work is the monument for soldiers in Induno Olona.
Where to See His Art
You can find some of Dante Parini's sculptures in different places. Some are in the Monumental Cemetery of Milan. Others are in the Sanctuary of San Felice (Parabiago) and the cemetery of Sarzana.
He also made a beautiful marble carving for the church of Santa Maria. This church is part of the Maggiore Hospital at Ca 'Granda in Milan. The carving shows "The healings of Christ." Many of his works are kept at the Ospedale di Niguarda, which is sometimes called "the City of art" because of all the art there.
In 1882, Dante Parini tried to get his design chosen for a sculpture at the Vittoriano "Altar of the Homeland" in Rome. However, his project was not picked.
His Paintings and Achievements
Besides sculpting, Dante Parini also enjoyed painting. Throughout his long life, he showed his artworks in many international exhibitions.
In 1924, the Brera Academy gave him a special honor. He was made an Honorary Member, which means they recognized his great talent and contributions to art.
After World War II ended, Dante Parini also served his community in a different way. He became the first mayor of Brusimpiano.
